Xtalic's XPROTECTTM process is a broadly applicable alternative to hard chromium plating that offers better performance using a greener and much less hazardous electrolyte chemistry than hexavalent chromium.
Hard Chrome has Many Application, but the Process is Hazardous
Hard chromium coatings are widely used in a variety of industrial applications because of their hardness, durability and corrosion resistance. However, due to the dangers of the hexavalent chromium processes, replacements have been sought by industry for many years. Chromium is electroplated from electrolyte solutions containing hexavalent chromium, an extremely strong oxidizing agent and known carcinogen that is under stringent environmental as well as health and safety regulation around the world.
XPROTECTTM is a Safe and Complete Hard Chrome Replacement
While some alternatives to hard chrome have demonstrated a capability in specific applications none have found the same broad applicability of industrial use as chromium plating. Xtalic's family of nanocrystalline nickel-tungsten alloy process provides a broadly applicable replacement for chromium plating at equal and frequently far superior levels of performance. Our solution is a clean technology without the environmental and health and safety issues associated with hexavalent chromium chemistries.
Superior Wear and Equal or Better Corrosion Protection
In oil and gas applications, for example, hard chromium coatings have been used for their wear resistant properties. Unfortunately, hard chromium's corrosion resistance is not sufficient for many highly corrosive downhole drilling and extraction environments. XPROTECTTM coatings provide equal, or better, wear resistance to hard chromium while offering far superior corrosion resistance. In many other industrial applications where chrome is used today the properties of Xtalic's coatings are technically superior and are produced from a process that is greener and safer than those containing hexavalent chromium.
